Security to be tightened at the stadium

Kochi City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar on Tuesday directed the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) to hand over the control of Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to the police two days prior to the first match match to put in place various security arrangements. The first match is scheduled on April 9.

The commissioner has also asked the KCA to consider removing the metal spikes erected on the railings which could turn fatal in case of a stampede. The KCA had built the sharp metal structures for the match between India and Pakistan held in April 2005 after the police asked them to do so.

The Commissioner also sought details of highprofile players in the team who come under various security categories. He also directed the police officials to get details of the tenants who run shops at the stadium complex.

The KCA officials had requested the police to ensure that the pitch is not photographed before the match as it would help analyse its nature and aid betting.
